Approached By A Cat When Praying In Islam, This Is Our Attitude
Cats are curious animals and always approach their master when he wants something. There must be times when we are praying then we are approached by our cat.
There are cats who just want to lie on the prayer rug, stroke our feet, want to play with our gloves, and there are also those who sit next to us such as they want to join us in praying or worshiping, etc. So what should we do if this happens to us and how do we react to it?
What Are The Signs If You Are Approached By A Cat During Prayer ?
Being visited or approached by a cat during prayer is interpreted by some people as a sign of certain luck or bad luck. As good Muslims, we are forbidden to believe in such things because this is an act of misguided.
Being approached by a cat is just a sign that the cat likes to be around us, thinks we are good humans. This is also a sign that we are friendly humans, protecting animals and a comfortable place for them to be.
What Should We Do If We Are Disturbed Or Approached By A Cat During Prayer ?
Being disturbed or approached by a cat during prayer, what should we do ? Should we cancel our prayers or should we continue ? All we have to do is continue our prayers and ignore the presence of cats.
Try as much as possible not to laugh or get angry when praying because it can cancel our prayers. There were times when I used to laugh because the cat came to me during prayer and suddenly did something that made me laugh. As a result, I have to repeat my prayers again.
What If A Cat Passes In front Of Us During Prayer ?
If when we are praying suddenly a cat wants to pass in front of us, then prevent it by hand and push gently so that it does not pass in front of us. I rely on the hadith that shows how we act when humans pass in front of us while praying. Here is the hadith.
- When one of you prays facing something that restricts him from people, then someone wants to pass in front of him, then let him stop it. If he doesn't want to then force him, because he is a devil." ( HR Al-Bukhari no. 509 and Muslim no. 505 )
What If The Cat Is Silent In Front Of Us During Prayer ?
Just like when a cat will pass in front of us, all we do is push or shift the cat's body gently so that it is no longer sitting or lying in front of us. Just push until the position is not in front of us anymore. Do it with one hand only, can use the foot, left or right hand.
What If A Cat Plays Near Us During Prayer ?
See first where the position of the cat that comes to play. If it is in front of us, we just have to move its position so that it doesn't hinder us during prayer. If the cat is just playing behind or beside us, ignore it. And try not to laugh or get angry during prayer, because this can invalidate our wudhu.
What If We Laugh Or Get Angry While Praying ?
It could be that when we pray, we laugh out loud or get emotional because of the behavior of a pet cat that annoys us. When this happens we are forced to return to wudhu and repeat our prayers. Because laughing or getting angry while praying is one of the many things that causes prayers to be canceled.
Repeat wudhu and pray again. So that prayers are not canceled again, pray in a closed room that cannot be entered or visited by cats.
What If Cat Pee While Praying ?
Cats who are in heat have a habit of spraying ( spraying a kind of urine ) carelessly. In the midst of performing prayers, a lustful cat may come near us and then urinate on us and make the prayer invalid.
We have to take a shower and change our clothes then we can pray again. Prevent this from happening by confining the cat in a cage or certain room when we want to pray.
What If The Cat Vomits Or Defecates?
This one may be rare but it can happen. Cats come to us then the cat vomits or defecates and urinates on our prayer mat. So if this happens then we are forced to cancel the prayer.
If our gloves or feet are not exposed to vomit or cat feces, it is legal for us to continue praying again. But if you are still in doubt whether you get hit or not, you can change the gloves, clean your feet and go back to wudhu.
What I usually do when this happens, I will change the place of prayer and let the dirty condition of the prayer rug remain in its place. After finishing the prayer, I cleaned the prayer mat earlier.
What If the Cat Takes Her Kitten On The Prayer Mat ?
Cats whose children are over a week or a month old often take their kittens to a new place that they think is cleaner, safer and more comfortable. Once when Angora was praying in the prayer room at home, Ai-chan ( the name of the cat ) came carrying her one week old child on a prayer rug.
Forced us as an owner, relented, changed places and replaced other prayer mats for prayer. Because I'm afraid that if we just shift the cat's position during prayer, the kitten could pee or defecate carelessly.
The baby's is not yet able to control urination and pooping, so they still carelessly poop and urinate.
How To Prevent Cats From Disturbing When Praying ?
So that we are not disturbed by cats when performing prayers, we should pray in a room that does not have a cat and cannot be entered by a cat. You can also temporarily lock the cat in its cage.
Giving your cat food or toys to distract him from us won't work. Anggora used this method, as a result, the cat kept rioting again when I was praying, hehe.
Taking the cat out of the house during prayer will also not work if the windows of the house are open. The cat will come back through the window and will again disturb us when he wants to be near his beloved master.
This method only works when it is done at night, because the windows of the house are all closed.
Does Touching A Cat Invalidate Wudhu And Prayer ?
Maybe there are times when we have finished wudhu and are praying, the cat touches our body. Touching a cat and being exposed to cat hair does not invalidate wudhu and prayer. This is because cats are not unclean animals.
Cats themselves are sacred animals because of their habit of cleaning themselves. Even water that has been drunk by a cat using its tongue can be used for wudhu. This is explained in the following hadith :
Cats are not unclean. He is an animal that is near you ( HR Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi )
Cats are like household ornaments, they are not soiled by anything ( Muslim )
The Messenger of Allah said: The cat is a creature whose body, sweat, leftover food and saliva are sacred. His saliva is holy and sterilizing. His life is cleaner than humans ( HR. Malik )
Maybe that's the only discussion about how we behave when approached or visited by a cat when praying. If you find this article useful, share it with your relatives or social media.
